    Description

For bid is an original, unique 1917 snapshot of FORT YELLOWSTONE from a distance, taken on Tuesday, August 28, 1917, during World War I.  The following information is written on the back of the photo in pencil: "Tues Aug 28 - 17 Fort Yellowstone at Mammoth Hot Sprg Liberty Cap in foreground is 52 ft high extingt Geyser."  Photo shows the buildings of the fort as they looks in the first months of World War I.  Valley, mountains, etc. visible in good detail.  Snapshot measures just under 5 3/4 inches wide.  It's in really outstanding condition and this is a great piece of Yellowstone National Park history.
According to a brief history I read, the 7th Cavalry Regiment (US ARMY) was stationed at this fort in 1917.  This was one of the final military units in Yosemite Park before the Park Service began civilian control of such parks in the US.
