    Description

For your consideration is a large original albumen photograph signed and inscribed by important American photographer, Josiah Hawes, of 19th century American political titan, Daniel Webster.
Photograph measures 15.5 x 19.25 inches, and is mounted to a backing board.
Photograph bears an original signature and inscription by Hawes himself as an old man in 1899, which reads "This photograph was copied by me in 1896 from a daguerreotype made by me in 1849. J. J. Hawes, Boston, July 13th, 1898.
It is a rather famous, wild-eyed portrait of the legislator, looking rather intensely and, interesting for the time, away from the camera lost in thought. Photograph exhibits some fading. The mount has stains around the sides and at the bottom. It doesn't affect the image, but is visible in the inscription (see photos). Photograph is in an old frame, possibly original to the photograph.
Rare! I have only been able to find one other extant example of this at the Museum of Fine arts in Boston.
