    Description

This is a rare piece of musical theatre memorabilia, with an interesting backstory that makes it highly collectible.
In 1982, the biggest competition at the Tony Awards was between Michael Bennett's
    Dreamgirls
    and Tommy Tune's
    Nine.
    Both won multiple awards, but
    Nine
took home the Tony for Best Musical. To honor Michael Bennett, Marty Calabrese, who worked backstage for
    Dreamgirls
    , designed this poster, mimicking
    Nine
's original artwork, but featuring Bennett and his signature red baseball cap. The poster proclaims
    Dreamgirls
to be a "10", even though it lost to a "Nine". A limited number of posters were printed for people associated with
    Dreamgirls.
This poster measures 23 1/2" by 20", is signed by the artist, and is numbered 1 of 90. The poster was originally owned by Frank Krenz, who was an assistant to the costume designer for Dreamgirls, Theoni V. Aldredge.
This is a rare and interesting piece of theatrical memorabilia and musical theatre history.
