3 dead as bus carrying pilgrims overturns after hitting pole, falls into valley

Three people died and over 25 others were injured after a bus carrying pilgrims overturned when it hit a pole and veered off from a hilly road before it fell into a valley in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district on Monday, police said. The vehicle was carrying around 50 pilgrims.
While Superintendent of Police Akshay Raj earlier said four passengers were killed, he later corrected the figure saying the number of fatalities stood at three. “As of now, the number of passengers confirmed dead stands at three,” he said, according to news agency PTI.
The bus, carrying pilgrims from Kheda district, was returning from Ambaji temple when the accident occurred.
Police said the bus driver lost control of the vehicle when he hit a pole, which resulted in the vehicle overturning and falling from the hill.
The bus was carrying nearly 50 pilgrims to Kathlal in Kheda district, police said.
People from the nearby areas assisted the police and rescuers in the rescue operation.
Police were present at the spot and conducted an investigation into the accident.
